What's up, Oscar?

How can a film get nominated for 7 awards, including best picture, but not get nods for the director or either main actor? What's up with that?

I realize I can't gripe much since Atonement was like the only major film I saw this year, but doesn't that strike anyone else a little...odd?

Easy - The academy selects it's actor noms not based their body of work rather than their work that year. Sucks.
