Carnivale...

karenorSo I did start watching this show. I had decided not to, after I'd missed the first ep when it aired. But some lj friends were talking about it and i caught a clip on tv, so i decided to download them. of course the process takes forever. i think i started getting them around the time ep 5 aired. In any case, i'm about caught up now. i think maybe one ep behind. I've seen up to and including ep 8. I hate when Bittorrent people don't name the eps. "Insomnia" was on tv tonight, which i think would be ep 9, but i'm not sure. And I don't know what's airing tomorrow...
but in any case, the one i just saw was with lobster gal, and justin in the asylum. wanna know something weird. the asylum, where they filmed it is a part of my school. sorta. it's a satelite campus on its way to becoming a calstate school. Cal State Channel Islands. It's about 30 miles away from here. I had a class there once, my Women in History class. But that was the semester I got sick, so I was only there like...9 times. You can kinda tell how beautiful the campus is, all green and whatnot. Wanna know what's weirder? If you were thinking the place looks a whole lot like an insane asylum and not like a university, that's cuz it WAS an asylum...until a few years ago. Maybe like 8-10 years ago. It still has a plaque dedicating the main building (the one with the belltower) from sometime in the 30's. I wasn't 100% sure it was the campus. they only showed the belltower building from far away for like a second. But its hard to mistake the lush green grash next to the stark white painted stucco on the spanish buildings. Also the interior shots were places I'd never been in. But the telltale thing, when i was sure, was the windows inside the room where Justin makes the guy shutup so he can hear the radio. NO mistaking those orangey-pinkish window panes, and the bars on the windows. Let me tell you, it was kinda freaky sitting in a classroom with bars on the windows you know were there to keep crazy people locked in. the whole place had a VERY eerie vibe. no wonder they used it for this show...
anyway. i like Carnivale. It's so creepy! Especially those dream sequences...You gotta wonder tho, do the writers have Ben's story all figured out, or are they just writing it as they go along? I dunno. I love how everything is so dirty, nothings whitewashed. Ben's been wearing the same clothes the whole time. But really, there isn't nearly enough of the gay reptile guy.
I hope tomorrow doesn't make me two eps behind. i would, at some point, like to see this show on actual telivision. bittorrent freaks my computer out. slows it down too much. i can't download more than one thing at a time, and i can't really do much while downloading either.
anyway, its freezing and i need to be getting to bed. i have to finish my poetics statement tomorrow. i did manage about 3 pages of it today tho. go me! and my nephew isn't coming tomorrow either, so that means i'll have time to finish. sucks tho, i haven't seen much of him lately. his other grandparents are taking him to see Brother Bear at the El Capitan.
