Are shoes clothing? Are they accessories? Would it confuse a Brit to call them 'pieces of a wardrobe'?

Would it confuse a Brit to call them 'pieces of a wardrobe'?

If it helps at all, the first thing that comes to mind when I think of that phrase is literal pieces of a wardrobe (i.e. pieces of wood or whatever the thing is made of).

I know, me too. What about accessories v. clothing? What he hell ARE shoes, anyway if not one of those? What would you call a collection of clothing?

What would you call a collection of clothing?

Honestly? Probably a wardrobe.

(Yes I know, I know; not helpful.)

I would call shoes accessories. To me "Pieces of a Wardrobe" sounds like some flat pack wardrobe you would buy from Ikea.

yes i thought so. would it be fair to call them "articles of clothing"?

I could go with accessories, i suppose. but clothing works better for my purposes.
