hmm...mysterious
Aug. 12th, 2003 12:49 ami just got this email
hello, im the editor of this semester of the northridge review. this issue we are going to challenge some of the traditional methods in which text is presented. instead of the traditional box-shape in which poems are presented, we are going to present some of the texts in a more fluid shape. this will not affect the readability of your poem. just as a formality we would like your permission before we finalize before printing.
the northridge review is the literary magazine my school puts out every semester. i'm assuming this message means something i wrote was selected, but the email makes it seem like i had been already notified, which of course, i have not been. i sent an email back basically asking if a poem of mine was selected, and giving my permission. Hollie, did you receive an email like this at all? Did you submit? I know something of yours must have been chosen, you prize winner you.
if i was indeed selected, i'm quite pleased, cuz i think i turned in some stuff i was actually proud of, but as usual, i have no clue what it is right now.

Date: 2003-08-12 10:34 pm (UTC)no, i did not get that email. but from reading the poem that was accepted (very neat in its simplicity and starkness, btw), i can see why the editor (Alex Lee from our poetry class) would ask your opinion about altering the shape.
i'm actually having i think three poems published...To the Male Pop Musician, Swimming, and The Exchange: last day of may. (i'm positive about the first two, not to sure on the last one.) mine are the typical stanza style i have, and not as fluid as yours (in both shape and idea).
congrats on the publication! i'll see you at the reading, right?

Date: 2003-08-14 11:04 am (UTC)did you give them permission to move your poem around? i'm anxious to see what this book will look like if they're tinkering with form.
