ok, somebody's gotta know

i got good news and bad news. good news is, i now, technically, have high speed internet service. bad news is its aol, through my brother's dsl modem and router (i got to make a hole in the wall!), and i can't make anything outside of aol work. no netscape, no kazaa, nothing. its hardly worth it. and for the life of me, i can't figure out how to fix it. i've been futzing with it for like five hours to no avail... its so frustrating! at least i'll be able to use it to buy concert tickets and whatnot, but what i really wanted it for is downloading crap off the internet, and that's very difficult when i can't connect to kazaa. blah. so anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Umm, my mom has AOL dsl and it should work the same as a regular dsl connection when accessing things like Kazaa. What happens when you try using IE or something?

nothing. nothing will connect. not kazaa, not msn messenger, not iex, not netscape. i talked to an aol tech support guy but he had no idea what i was talking about...

my parents are using the same router (via an airport card, not a hardline like mines) and it works fine fo them. they have to hook up to aol first, but all the rest of the programs work.

That is very weird. Why can't you get DSL through some other means? It's not too expensive.

its too expensive when one is unemployed, as i am. and i shouldn't have to if we've already got one in the house. i've sorta figure out the problem. if i connect directly to the modem, everything works fine. but through the router, nothing. grr. which does nobody but me an good, cuz there's only one out on the modem....so the other two computers can't use it if i do....there's got to be a way around it.

That is crazy. I have no experience w/AOL so I can't help, but I hope you can figure it out! Downloading is necessary!
