So, what about Buffy appealed to you?

I didn't start watching Buffy till the third season. I'd seen a couple episodes of the first, randomly, and thought it was kind of dumb. But by the third season it had it's mythology intact, and I had my roommate to explain the things I didn't understand. And I found myself drawn in by actually how complex it all was. Joss, the creator, planned out storylines seasons in advance. He seeded little things in on the way. He was fond of subtlety, and saw the whole demon-world he created as a metaphor for life. You can go the normal route and say it's all about female empowerment, but that's never really struck a chord with me. The character, Buffy, was always my least favorite. But I really liked her motley crew of friends. They were adorable, the wit of the writing, impeccable. I think, for a show with mass appeal, it was actually written for smart people. If you know what i mean.
