OMG, i finished it!!! I'm not being cute or hyperbolic or anything when I say this took me five and a half hours from start to finish! I started at about 10 and finished about 3:30. It was freakin HARD. I've never worked with a stencil before. And there were cute a few snafus. Most of which i saved with a LOT of patience and a little crazy glue. The big problem was that the damn pumpkin was way too thick. Which made it very difficult to cut all the way through. It became a bigger problem with the smaller bits.

First, the set up and the cleaned pumpkin. I thought this would take me the longest time. It took maybe an hour to gut and clean the pumpkin. Maybe more. I wanted to get it down to the white skin, but I should have (i know now) scraped it way more).

Applying the stencil:

Going over the stencil with pokey bits. This was pretty difficult, as well:

I was listening to 80's music on the satellite tv to entertain my whilst creating my masterpiece. The Doctor, Doctor song came on!!!

This is what it looks like after poking all the holes and removing the stencil. Not bad, right?

The agony of cutting the blasted thing out. Ohhhh the agony.

Finally, it was finished and I hauled it to the bathroom to get it in the dark. There a few better pictures, but there was some schmootz by one of his eyes that i realized after i'd taken a bunch. So these are the less good ones taken after i noticed schmootz.

The hardest bits were the eyes and the nose/mouth area. Basically the details of the face nearly made me loose my mind. But it's done. And now is hanging out in my fridge. Until Halloween. :)

It's even vaguely recognizable, right? Right? (ok, so the lips are kinda crappy. Oh well)

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] roxyk630 and [livejournal.com profile] swankkat for the stencil!

Thanks. You need a big pumpkin. Mine is like...tall. Which i figured would work well with a standard paper-size stencil. Next year i'll get an even BIGGER pumpkin and blow up the image even larger.

Ok, not next year. Next year i'm going to be with the REAL David Tennant on Halloween. hee. The year after.
