omg! DW 03x11
Jun. 16th, 2007 02:20 pmin which my mouth drops and i have a freak attack, and i call
missperkigoth afterwards, literally flailing and going omgdidyouseeitdisyouseeitdidyouseeit!?!?!?!?
Oh dear lord. A fabulous misdirection on the parts of Who n Co. I totally thought the professor (cute, btw), was like an older Jack. Somehow. Because...Because...he looked like him! As soon as I saw the watch thing, my first thought was not that he was the Master, but that he was another incarnation of the Doctor. So, that's twice misdirected. And I totally didn't see his regeneration happening so soon. (And omg JS looked hot, and evil. and hot. btw) Why the drums, though, I wonder. And how the heck did he manage to get himself chameleon arched without a Tardis? And where the fuck WAS he between the events of the DWM and whenever he woke up on the silver shores of wherever?
Ok. that said. I have only two complaints about this amazing episode.
1. Why the rewriting Torchwood history? Did or did not the Tardis appear INSIDE the hub? Surely papers wouldn't have blown around otherwise. (I watched the last couple minutes of The End of Days right before watching today's ep, just to refresh my memory). So Jack somehow threw the hand in a jar in a bag, got out of the hub without anyone seeing, and legged it to the Tardis (from where? he didn't go out the concrete slab lift thing) in under 20 seconds? wtf?
2. You know what's coming. Martha. Yet again she finds solidarity with yet another unacknowledged (that is, unloved) companion. Aww, poor Martha. I'm OVER it. And the snide comments about Rose? That's more than jealousy, that's rude. She KNOWS how much Rose meant to him.
And ok, that was all I disliked. Cuz everything else? AWESOME! I don't really care that all Jack's flirtiness was a little OOC with Torchwood!Jack. Because the Doctor's reaction every time was flawless. Fabulous. Fantastic. teh love. So was everyone else who he charmed immediately.
And oh, all the juicy reveals of info. How long Jack's been on earth...how he died (did i miss something or was he on earth for THIRTY someodd years before dying the first time? have to hear those dates again. maybe i'm wrong.) All the talking about Rose and the game station. And how the Doctor always knew. And oh my god the look in the Doctor's eyes right at the beginning where he sees him on the monitor and leaves anyway. I gasped. Then I went back a couple minutes later to make sure I saw it right. And WHY he's been running from him? Oh it makes no sense and it's just ripe for soooo many interpretations. Jack's wrong? He's prejudiced? I don't know why but that's so just...wonderful. That whole conversation in the radiation room? If I could make out with a scene of television? That'd be it.
Also, I loved the JB got to be on opening credits.
Also i did NOT watch the trailer for next week. I'm scared. And I'm scared of the interwebs until then. I can't believe there are only two left. I can't believe there are only 2 left to finish the Saxon arc, to figure out what the deal is with Martha's mum, what the deal is with Martha herself! Can she go away nao? Or grow up? I swear I don't hate her. But I don't like what they've done with her with regards to the love thing. They destroyed an otherwise awesome character. Have her go away with Jack and go on Torchwood. I'd love to see her and a Weevil together. ;) Still, point is: omg only two eps left!!!!
Um. So again, i make with the flailing barely coherent review. I need time to gather my thoughts. And maybe watch the episode again. I usually don't do that. I might just do. If just for the amazing expressions on the Doctor's face throughout. MAN they ran the gambit on emotions in this one didn't they? Lordy.
Oh, the mouth dropping bit: YANA. What is up with that? Which came first, chicken or the egg? Did Boe know his name and construct the whaddayacallit? Acronym, no that's the other way. Whatever it's called. Or did the name come from What the Face of Boe said? How did the Master get it???? What arch, what Tardis constructed his alter ego? Does the Doctor know anything about what happened to the Master after San Francisco 99? Because I wanna know. A lot. Especially since that's the only Master I know. And by the way? Him saying his name? Trying to explain that there were only the two of them left? Oh i nearly got weepy.
Oh another point of contention, while I'm on the subject. Wouldn't the Doctor have known the moment the Master had opened the watch that he HAD done so? He was still yelling for him not to open it. Wouldn't he have sensed the other Time Lord already? But on the plus side, the editing in that whole sequence was amazing...I mean after Martha tells the Doctor and before they start running...with Boe and YANA and everything.
I have to stop now and take a nap. I may pass out from squee otherwise.

Date: 2007-06-18 04:24 pm (UTC)Yeah, I know. It doesn't work very well. However, if you look at the very very end of "The End of Days", there's an overhead shot of the Plass, and if you look closely you can see a teeny little person dashing across it. I think that's meant to be Jack dashing toward the TARDIS. So, yeah. He shoved the hand into a bag and legged it for all he was worth, somehow bypassing his own team. I think the wind and the noise was just the Torchwood production crew playing with the Doctor Who fans. It's the only explanation I can offer at this point.
And the snide comments about Rose? That's more than jealousy, that's rude. She KNOWS how much Rose meant to him.
Yeah, I know. Jack made the blonde comment, but he was still hurting and trying to hit the Doctor's sore spot. Martha has no excuse; she knows how much he's missed Rose. Of course, someone pointed out she probably has blonde issues, given that her father left her mother and took up with a bleached blonde. Still, though. Rude, much?
I don't really care that all Jack's flirtiness was a little OOC with Torchwood!Jack. Because the Doctor's reaction every time was flawless.
I'm not convinced that it is OOC. Yes, Jack has been more subdued in Torchwood, but he was STUCK there for over 100 years, having been abandoned. Now? He's back with the Doctor and having the time of his life again. He's happier, therefore he's flirtier. I love it. And I love the Doctor's reaction.
Oh, the mouth dropping bit: YANA. What is up with that? Which came first, chicken or the egg? Did Boe know his name and construct the whaddayacallit? Acronym, no that's the other way.
Ohhhh, yeah. If I think about this too much, my head goes spinny.

Date: 2007-06-18 04:33 pm (UTC)Ah! You're right! And I missed that in my rewatch ('course I wasn't looking for it, yet!). I bet you money that was a last minute add in shot when they figured out how Jack was going to reappear on DW.

Interesting idea. I think it was more that it was something she'd probably never be. In any case, that whole thing grated on me. I really don't think commiserating with Jack was the best gameplan if she's trying to win the Doctor's love.
I'm not convinced that it is OOC.
I dunno. I think they could have upped the flirtiness on Torchwood. He was always a bit too serious for my taste. And I wonder if he really is happy with the Doctor, now. Yeah, he missed him, missed the running around and the adventure, but he's also still, not a little pissed off. It's so intriguing to watch them play off each other.
