Doctor Who, Human Nature
May. 27th, 2007 12:04 ami did not have time to properly squee over today's Doctor Who right after i watched it. I had a party to go to and I was running late. But i've been ruminating. And I'm glad I came home to lots of f-list flailing, because I really think this is the strongest episode this season. Up there with The Shakespeare Code.
Weeeellll, if you ignore the gaping plot hole of why did his memories actually needed to be replaced. That seemed a little too convenient. But everything else was AWESOME. especially how human John Smith was. How absolutely right for his times, how imperfect. Average, bumbling, a little charming, and still a hero somewhere inside.
And I really loved the dreams, the journal (oh, Rose, *sniffle*), the relationship with Joan. Being all shy...and kissing. We really need to see the Doctor kiss someone in like every episode. And dancing. And and being confused. And calling Martha insane. ;)
Ok, i liked everything about Martha in this ep except for the retarded jealousy thing. The whole he didn't fall in love with me thing? I rolled my eyes. What is she, 11? It wouldn't occur to John Smith, in his 1913 schoolteacher persona to look at his maid that way. And even putting that aside, that was still stupid. She let it get in the way of doing her job, i think. But other than that, pretty cool. Don't know why she slapped him, though.
The family are creepy. As is the slightly psychic kid. Although he was working the something deeper behind the eyes thing. I predict a bright future for that actor.
I didn't know it was going to be a two-parter, but i figured it out early on. TOO much going on. And i LOVE it. I'm desperate to see the Doctor's reaction to how John Smith treated Martha. Though i'm guessing we won't see much. I'm also curious to see the fallout of the relationship between him and Joan. I have no idea what's going to happen there (and i didn't even watch the trailer for next week). But I think she may die. Might be too complicated otherwise. And why not add to the pile of Doctor angst.
Oh, tis times like these i really really hate having to wait a week between episodes. This was just soooo good. It was almost like DT was playing another role, but yet it wasn't. It was still the Doctor. Also rad to see a period ep done all period-like. Except for the stuff with the family and their ship.
be next saturday now, please!
p.s. has anyone else had the Michael Jackson song stuck in their head all day?
