i should note, that i had a dream about David Tennant while napping right before watching today's Doctor Who. He was standing on stage, and he was going to be participating in some sort of festival show, and was just hanging out watching the people in the pit sort of jostle for the best spot before the show. that's about all i remember.

anyway,

i was ill pleased to see the Daleks again. I'm a bit over them. i think i mentioned in a previous review that when you keep bringing back an arch enemy, said enemy becomes a bit less arch. i dunno, maybe for the viewers who haven't rewatched each episode a couple times, and for whom its been 9 or 10 months since they last saw a Dalek onscreen it would be different.

i mean, i liked how angry the Doctor got when he figured it out...and at least this time his angst over Martha was a little more warranted. But i dunno... i guess it still feels early in the season for me (still sorta used to the American format where 4 episodes in is still fairly early on), not a third of the way through (the horror!). and this feels like a further down the line episode. I also like that at least these are the same Daleks as in Doomsday (although I don't recall any others besides Sek teleporting...maybe i'm wrong), and not just some others that "fell through a crack in time" (still not sure about that from series 1, since that WAS in the future, post Doomsday, technically).

And i didn't mind the horrid American accents. Some of them weren't fake, and the over the top ones were totally ok for the roles.

As for Martha/Doctor...well. "Our detour?" Is that what he said? Showed her newx15 york so thought it was time to show her the proper one? i guess... still i think their should have been SOME mention of why in particular he was keeping her around. and seriously, she has to have slept by now. no change of clothes for her? The doctor's switched suits and shoes again. And we finally have a gap between episodes where a lot of stuff could have happened.

As for the deliberate shippy stuff: Martha's chat with Talullah? I would have thought she was kinda over it by now. The infatuation. She seems smart enough not to be hung up on a guy who's hung up on someone else. But then again, who can blame her. ?I'm not very hating on her this week. But ahem. "You can kiss me later?" why do they throw lines like that at fangirls? i'm sure Ten/Martha shippers um...punched the air. As did the omgtheDoctoristotallyasflexibleasJack peeps at the line that followed. which was pretty great. this episode was a little low on funny, after all.

i'm surprised none of the people they met brought up Martha's appearance (clothing wise). also, i would have expected at least one comment on the race issue, if people assumed they were together. especially from someone like Talullah, if they were going to accurately represent the times. then again, i suppose that's more 'drama' (of the real world type) than they wanted to insert into this episode. and i don't hold them responsible for it, don't count it against the episode. it's just curious.

oh, and i will admit that the human Dalek scared the crap out of me. First time i've been scared this series. bully for them.

and another thing. i had heard that Martha's family was going to be a little more present this season...still no sign of them again. which is sorta necessary for the keeping up with the 'one trip' dealio. don't spoil me for when they come back. i imagine it could be at the end of next week, after surviving this major trauma. i didn't watch the preview for next week. and i think i'll avoid watching the Confidential as well.

and on a completely superficial note, i think i like the Blue Suit. I was a little undecided after Smith and Jones, but now i think it works. Even with the coat. Not sure about the shoes, though. I'd kinda like to see it with the natural or black chucks, just for comparison.

that was longish for a knee-jerk reaction post (and it seems longer since lj is giving me some crappy version of the update page). this episode bears some thinking on, i think. mayhap i'll return later.
