Apr. 19th, 2003 10:45 amso i wasn't gonna write about last night, cuz i didn't have the time. but my lazy friend danni won't be ready for like another two hours, and since we're not doing the meet and greet today anyway, we don't have to get there early and i have some time to kill. we don't have tickets, that's the only reason i want to show up earlier in the day. we're supposed to be getting hooked up by someone, but it's very tentative, and i'm paranoid. i'm also fairly unexcited by the venue...danni told me to go by myself and he'd meet me there, but i don't wanna drive to anaheim in traffic all by my lonesome.
anyway, yesterday was pretty odd. i got like less than 5 hours of sleep on which to drive to and from santa barbara (about 80 miles away) and hang out all day without passing out. we got to the venue in sb at about 9:30 and there were already 23 ppl signed up on the m&g list (we were trying the number system which worked in san luis obispo just fine), but only about 10 ppl waiting there. See this place is in the middle of State Street in downtown santa barbara, there is stuff to do, not like in slo where we were pretty much stuck in the middle of a large campus with near impossible parking...so anyway, ppl were coming and going all day. and by 4:30 there were no barricades set up and over 100 ppl, and the number system fell to uselessness, despite the ppl who were desparately trying to keep it in tact, had woken up very early, etc. etc. I called it at about 12:30 that there would be no m&g in the chaos that was building. and so i was right. At like 4:30 Steve announced that there would be none cuz there was no place for it and they were running late.
so i go with some friends to this girl's house (she lives close to there) and we hang out and then go get some food (the same place i went for lunch earlier that day, i felt so unoriginal). back at the venue before the show i met this girl who i knew in highschool. we were more aquantainces than friends, but like we were really friendly aquantiances back then. and she almost totally blew me off, so it was kinda weird. i mean we talked for a bit, but she made it pretty cler that she did not want to whatsoever. even tho she recognized me (i wasn't 100% sure it was her till i saw her close up, but i was gonna let it go) and gave ME a hug. it was super weird.
so i finally get in the venue, and i have a pretty good seat. 5 the row in the right of center section, three seats in from the aisle (between the right and center sections). so i'm stoked. until the two ppl who have the seats to my left show up. The girl who sat next to me was obnoxious from the start, dropping her hair clip and making us all move so she could look for it with a lighter, with which she proceeded to singe the chair and possibly me, cuz i smelled something burning. and she's figeting and moving and reaching down for something from one of her two purses like every five seconds or getting up to do something. i figured this would end once tori came on...Nope. she continued just as if Tori wasn't on stage. and this included talking with her friend rather loudly. she also scuted way to the right in her chair (towards me), i think because the guy she was with (in the aisle seat) was a really large individual and she didn't want be up against him or something. She elbowed me every time she clapped, and it didn't seem to bother her. If you've ever been in the Arlington, you'd know that the seats are pretty small and there also is no legroom, but that didn't stop her from all her stupid movement, shifting all her stuff everytime she picked up her drink. she got up at least four times during the show, at one point, standing in the aisle and talking to the guy in the aisle seat (not even bending down to whisper) and not inbetween songs either. i said nothing, but several other ppl told her, at least, to be quiet. anyway, i was already pissed off at this girl very majorly, and i breathed a sigh of relief when she got up during iiiee (last song before the encores), leaving just the guy in the aisle seat to navigate for the rush. I figured it wouldn't be a problem, since people stand up for the encore even if they don't rush the stage, so i could just move past him easily, right? newp. he wasn't even getting up. i asked him very politely to get out of my way, which he like refused to do, until he saw the massive amounts of ppl running down the aisles and seem to catch on (the girl next to me who i'd met earlier in the day, came with me, i wasn't the only one), and i went past him up to the stage (about 3 people back, a little right of center) and proceeded to enjoy about half the encore, before the aforementioned bitch (who wasn't even there when the rush happened, mind you) squeezes her way (pushes and shoving is more like it) to get to me and tap me in the shoulder (yes in the middle of a song, Taxi Ride, i thing) and bitch me out for "pushing" that guy, which i did not. She said something like "you know that guy you pushed?" i said i didn't push anybody, but she went on to that he has cancer (bfd, who hasn't!) and that i was, get this "pushing him all night"! and "knocking their stuff over"! what? what? SHE was in between us, no way i was pushing him, and i was staying completely still trying my best to lean towards the girl on my right, so i wouldn't have to touch her, not even clapping! i was fuming mad, and was about to unload on her when two different people told her to shut up and she left. i think i just said "whatever" or something. but that pretty much ruined the last few songs for me. and about half the drive home where i was ranting about how evile and horrid a person she was.
i tried to rush out of the theater at the end so i wouldn't have to see her (i was afraid i'd hit her, literally) so i tried to go out the other side (left side) cuz her dumb ass was still looking for her hairclip. danni and i bypassed saying goodbye to the peeps, since we'll be seeing them all today, and we got on the road by like 11:30 (it took a while to get out of the parking lot).
oh, and more weirdness...the set was just...strange. Tori did this whole good friday theme (she didn't say so, but if you were paying attention to the songs, it was pretty obvious) besides her staples she played: Crucify, Pancake, Take to the Sky, Father Lucifer, Lust, Black-Dove (January), Jackie's Strength,Here. In My Head, Winter, Carnival, Mary, Professional Widow, Talula, Mrs. Jesus, Horses. Almost all of which have a direct (or indirect) Jesus or Mary reference.
While Here. In My Head was worth the other two crappy solo songs, the WHOLE set was like OMG! and then wtf...OMG...wtf... (forive my excessive internetese) but my point is, it was like sharp twists between amazing and mediocre. Overall, Tori didn't seem to be very into it. Possibly do to the lack of m&g? i dunno.
anyway, the whole day was pretty weird. there were definitely some bright spots, but the badness just lingers, you know...
hmmm...should be getting ready to go. wish me good seats tonight, and a good set!

Date: 2003-04-21 08:11 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about the set list too. I'm pretty happy I didn't go to the Vail show...I think for all the trouble it would've been I wouldn't have been so psyched about it even though everyone who went says it was great.
