Apr. 14th, 2003 09:16 ami don't know why, somehow in the past two years or so, being a supporter of Israel became unbelievably un-pc. because they dared to defend themselves, somewhat. because the day to day job of their uberstrong military is to defend the people from cowardly homicide bomcings and other acts of terrorism. and unfortunately, that defense results, on ocassion, a civilian death or injury, sometimes, even of an innocent. People play the numbers game, and say look look more palestinians have died! they don't qualify and say just how many of them were terrorists or combatants. Because they have no organized military, they are all 'civilians'. which is a blatant load of crap.
so i'm like this monster or something because i support my ancestral homeland which itself is painted monstrous by a biased media. Americans and the world at large fail to see the extent of tight media control the palestinians have over all reports that come out of their controlled areas. We aren't shown the footage of them teaching their children in classrooms to hate and kill Israelis. I'm not kidding when I say they have commercials that tell their children to "put down their toys and pick up rocks" and to martyr themselves like little mohammed who died and now is in paradise with all the other martyrs and their oodles of virgin wives.
So I'm sorry if i'm a bit tired of it, and that doesn't jive with what the world image of someone who supports peace is. Israel stayed out of the war in Iraq precisely because they didn't want it to become an Israel/Arab conflict. Not because they don't deserve revenge, cuz god they so do, but are above seeking it. And they support the Coalition action for the same reason I do, because it would oust a tyrant (A financially and otherwise terrorist supporting dictator, someone who literally writes ten thousand dollar checks to the families of homocide bombers to encourage such future terrorists) from power. And yes, to protect the Iraqi people. Cuz believe it or not, the Israeli govt. doesn't want the destruction of any people, even and especially Arabs who they revere as coming from a common history and blood. By and large, the hate is one sided.
All Israel wants, all I want is peace. Yeah, believe it or not. I do actually support peace and a war at the same time. I support the idea of military defense. I am sad when anybody dies in any such effort for peace, ever. It sucks. But sometimes it's necessary.
And what bothers me almost more than that is the Arab media that immediately turns to point fingers at Israel and says they are the cause for all of it, even for America's action. Everything bad that's ever happened, that's Israel's fault. It's as bad as the "blood libel" of medieval Europe, or the Jewish Conspiracy theories propagated by the Russians in the 1800s, the Nazis during WWII and the KKK here and now in America.
that's my schpeel for the day. Take it as you will. I mean no offense to anyone who disagrees (especially lisa who I love and don't want our differing politcal views to come between friendship).
