i'm still peeved that i got interrupted watching it. but still, possibly, the best episode evar.



so i didn't love Suzie back in the first ep. I mean, she was just so shifty, it was obvious she was the bad guy. But anyway, this episode...kinda kept surprising me, which for Torchwood is just so fucking great.

so, totally random thoughts:

it was FUNNY! for one of the darkest eps, in theory, this one had the best one liners/running jokes of the whole run so far. Ianto with the rhymes, and everyone reactions (especially Owen's to "cool name"). Risen Mitten!!!! i guffawed. i love Ianto!!!

um. Gwen with the glove powers of DOOM! lends credence to killerspork33's theory about Gwen being special. But here's the thing. I'm not sure the rest of them knew that, but Suzie must have. Cuz i was willing to buy her oh so perfect plan. Suspend my disbelief on that. That she could predict future events well enough, that she could plant the trigger in Max, all that stuff (tho Tosh's figuring out the ISBN was like the lamest thing ever, but whatevs). She was a genius or whatever, she knew her team so very well that she could know they would resurrect her and how and whatall. But she had to know Gwen was capable of bringing her back fully, or her plan would NEVER have worked. Not even Jack could make it go. So, that's either a flaw in the plot (and this one was tighter than most eps of torchwood) or Suzie DID know something about Gwen that no one else did.

Jack! talking about his exploits. and just being in general quite cheery. and caring about his friends. a glipse of the old jack, finally. "you'd rather me naked?" tho if they don't explain why he insists on suspenders i may 'splod. cuz yeah, the coat is love, but suspenders are probably the unsexiest piece of clothing ever.

um. ok. Stopwatch? the other laugh out loud line was Ianto saying "it's the button on the top" and the sexy smile. That was precious. I love happy Ianto! but um, stopwatch innuendo porn? Yes, these guys can carry off the lets go shag vibe like no one's business, but what was that crap about the watch. i mean, really? was it supposed to mean anything? am i missing something? Is there some presupposed kinkiness related to stopwatches or someodd? cuz that was odd. the watch ticking in the background over the strains of that sad sexy song tho was pretty great.

no seriously this is bugging me. what are the kinky uses of a stopwatch? oh, maybe i don't wanna know. also, if they really are going to go bone or whatever. something's a little weird with character development here. or we're missing a lot. have they been together before? Jack's reaction at realizing what Ianto was getting at seems to imply that. And maybe that's what the whole kiss of life and comforting hand on Ianto's shoulder a few eps back was about. because the Jack they've created on Torchwood, wouldn't really be the type to shag coworkers, i don't think. what i mean is, unless he already was. does that make sense? if this was the first time, then its OOC with what they've created. If it wasn't its quite clever having intended this all along and hidden it, but given little hints. however... i can't really see that from Ianto when he was sooooo hung up on Lisa. so, i'm a wee bit perplexed.

Ok, back to Suzie. the nothing. but then not being alone in the nothing. that didn't make much sense. i mean... i get the drama and all. but she said "nothing" which is damn different than "darkness [with something]." 'k? it got a little scary too. this ep really did have it all. anyway. what's moving in the dark, eh? If Suzie was in "hell" (i.e. the Whoverse version of hell, aka The Void), and if we still carry our western culture's ideals that bad people go to hell (and she was quite bad, i mean, killing those people, and then carrying out the methodical killing by proxy of those others, just to get resurrected, just to kill her dad [and i wonder what HE did, too]...that's pretty evil...even if she says she's sorry)....then what is it that's moving in there? Oh it sounds all skeery and dark and demonic...but if its The Void, is it Cybermen and Daleks in there? not that i want those on Torchwood, really...but i'm just wondering. Or should we ignore what we know. Or just assume no relation. The Doctor wasn't sure about the nature of the void anyway. Or that of the Devil and what have you. Should we assume something demonic-ish, then. Should we assume that Suzie had some intimate knowledge of it and its plans. Did she spend those three months just chatting with it about Jack? if so, you'd think "nothing" wouldn't be her initial summation of where she was, yeah?

still i'm intrigued by the contradictions in her character. and interesting that she shagged Owen too. she wanted to replace Gwen, but she knew she couldn't be part of the team, so...i dunno, that's odd.

also, being shot in the head slowly...once you're bleeding from the back of the head, wouldn't you be like dead already? i'm just saying.

yeah, so i'm all over the place with this review. i liked the slowmo gwen/jack moment near the end. i'm not convinced their can't be something between these two.

and my final thought for now. it's shallow. but that scene in car with Gwen and Suzie, Gwen's adorable little gap was distracting me. like woah. i'm perplexed by it.

I'm almost wondering if their relationship had almost gotten to that point of becoming sexual when the whole mess with Lisa occured. Because Jack reacted extremely harshly against Ianto, much more than we've seen in the other episode. If Jack had feelings for Ianto it would explain why he would take the betrayal so hard. Cause I'm not buying that they were having sex yet.

I could totally see Owen and Susie having sex. I mean, I don't get why people are so shocked. When we met Owen he was a slut, the idea of him sleeping with another team mate makes sense in a very twisted way. This team obviously has issues with not fucking each other.

hmm. now that makes sense. a happy medium between the extremes i was looking at. yes, quite possibly that makes the most sense. and i just know they're not going to tell us either way, damn them.

are they? i wasn't. i mean, i didn't know about it and i wouldn't have guessed, but i wasn't shocked per se. after all, we didn't know much about her but that she was evil. and we DID know Owen was a slut. and yeah, this team is quite...hands on.

it makes me wish more and more that Doctor Who wasn't for kids and was on post-watershed. because you see all the smut we can get, even if just mostly implied. sigh...

I'm ok with the stopwatch thing simply because it's the most random reference we now have to sex and no one outside the fandom is going to know what the hell we're talking about.

I need to rewatch the ending, with Owen holding Gwen on the pier (cause that made my shipper heart happy) and then the whole Jack/Ianto conversation. Cause yay my OTPs being more or less canon.

i love that this show just sort of comes out and says it, in a way. but is still all innuendo-y and cute.

I may be misinterpreting the plot but I didn't think Suzie's death or resurrection had anything to do with Pilgrim, the murders and Emily Dickinson and so on - nothing except that Suzie was in the middle of it. I thought that her plan was to destroy Torchwood after her death by implicating them in a series of murders with their top-secret name written across everything. And trapping them inside their own Hub - I was expecting poison gas or something. When she was alive again, she had a new plan - to take Gwen's place, to kill her father, and so on. That wasn't part of her original plot.

My goodness, I couldn't disagree more! Those suspenders make me swoon. Just the way they did when Alan Cade wore them in "The Chief". And the coat, the general look, and so on, though where'd that gorgeous waistcoat from "Ghost Machine" disappear to?

Yes. We didn't know about this before. That makes sense: the others didn't know, and the last few episodes have been their point of view. I'd say things have changed since "Cyberowman". Others think they were lovers before that. Could be either way.

Anyway, I never saw it as 'out of character' for Jack to shag his coworkers. Seems to me more in-character than the sexually-inactive Jack we seemed to be seeing before.

That's not the impression i got. I think that she planned everything, starting with going to Pilgrim, for the sole purpose of getting herself permanently ressurected. Though i'm not sure how not knowing Jack was immortal works into that plan.

Fair enough! I don't know why I love them so much, but I do. It's even better when they're red. My only other mental reference to suspenders on TV is Martin Shaw as Alan Cade in "The Chief", and he turned me weak with lust when he wore them as well. Who'd've guessed?

well sure, he does them a world of good. but it's just not enough. in my opinion.

if i could combine his hair from Torchwood, and his clothing from Doctor Who, i think i'd be happy. tho i am partial to the coat. which goes, i guess with the suspenders. but i still find them unnecessary. hmm.
