karenorok. so help a sista out.
i'm doing some translation of poetry from hebrew to english. this poet is a little whacky. the poem i'm working on is about wanting to be an ostrich and not being allowed to be one by the zoo and the reasons whyfor.
so i'm stuck on this bit. the line goes somewhat like this:
"it is so sensual it is so _______"
in the blank is a word that is made up by the poet. it is the same as the word for sensual, except it has a different ending. sensual in this case seems to imply physical-ness more than eroticism, but i think it conveys both, as in english. i think.
anyway, i don't know what to fill the blank in with. the translator in the book (who i'm dutifully trying to ignore) uses "dimensual"...making up another word...so keeping the made-up-edness and trying to stay with the theme (combiningg demensional and sensual, i guess).
so i figured i'd try something like that, but using a different combo of words. "physical" seemed to lend itself most idea-wise. but "sysical" or "sensucal" aren't really working for me.
i've thought about "sensical" which feels as though it could be the opposite of nonsensical, but it's not, it's not a word, since "nonsensical" comes from "nonsense". so that would keep with the made up idea, but lose or alter some meaning.
so what do i do? this is the third to last line in the poem, its very important. poets or anyone creative. or anyone. just help!
its very frustrating, especially translating a poem where sound is so important (it's called "the i went to work as an ostrich blues"...or at least that's how i translate the title). it was tough enough to deal with rhyme. but this? i'm totally at a loss.
any suggestions would be most welcome. asap, cuz i've been totally procrastinating on this, and i have to present this on tuesday and i need to format and print everything at work tomorrow (and hope that no one catches me stealing office supplies on a sunday).
