ho hum...15 israeli's killed today by a bomber on a bus and no one cares...barely a blip on the news...i guess when something happens all the time, it's not newsworthy anymore.
I don't know what's going on in your town, but that's big bold front page news here. And people do care you know. I have a friend who lives in Haifa. I've lost touch with him but I know he is in the army now and I always wonder how he is doing. Where is your family over there?
interesting. it's not even on the national news...
i have family in haifa (or i used to, my mother's aunt, but she passed away recently, her daughter i think still lives there). and i have a bunch of family in tel aviv and various other scattered places around israel.
Maybe it makes the news here because there are so many pro Israel or pro Palestinian protestors running around that if a bomb goes off, the potential for demonstration jumps up. Just a guess.
maybe. i wasn't aware that there were pro Israel demonstrators in san francisco.
i've been watching the israeli news that we get on the satelite. but it's really hard for me to follow when they start talking politics, because i never much heard those words growing up. it gives you a perspective you can't see on american tv. a lot more footage, as well.
of course there are pro Israel protestors in SF. Almost had a riot last year at one of the demonstrations over Afghanistan because everyone was snarling at each other over who was responsible for what, the Israeli's or the Palestinians. That's one of the reasons I never went to any of those protests. Those people were scary.
p.s. this credit card company hold music is a muzak version of "God save the queen" how bizarre
hmmm. i guess in a squishy city like s.f. things can get heated. i don't know much about protests around these here parts, cuz i don't go...i've never been much of a demonstrator, and now that there is a cause i believe strongly in, nobody wants to hear from me...
that's weird about 'god save the queen' i think i would have to hang up on the credit card co.
I feel like such a clod. I don't watch the news. I try not to pay attention to anything in most cases because I feel so powerless to change the state of affairs outside of my own sphere. When I read your journal... I start to feel it is people like me who contribute to the problem. However, I also think if I did watch the news this is exactly the kind of thing I would WANT to see. That would be the point of watching.
Not sure if I'm making sense, but I felt like I had to say something.
thank you. i appreciate your comments. it's not people like you who are part of the problem. it's more people who see only one side (that is, the wrong one). heh. it's something i have vested interest in, personally and cuz of my family. that's not everyone. i blame no one. well, not no one, but you know what i mean. i hope i don't make you feel bad when i voice my frustrations. i don't mean to.
No, I'm glad you voice your frustrations! I just wish there was more I could personally do to make the world be less crappy. hehe. Thanks for your response. I think reading what you have to say broadens my mind.
