Mar. 24th, 2005 12:30 amlooking up song lyrics the other day, i just realized what a certain toad the wet sprocket song was about when it should have been obvious to me years ago.
apprently glen wrote about writing it in a songbook that came out way back when. but i never had said songbook, so i never read that.
i feel kinda dumb. no i feel really dumb. thinking about it, i probably realized it before, but never really thought about it. anyway, the song is written from the perspective of Jesus' brother. it's not anti-Jesus, but it is a little...anti-Gospel(s) i guess.
if anyone is interested, i'd love to hear your opinions on it. glen is such an amazing songwriter...in his openness, he denies nothing, but questions everything....
Paul is making me nervous
Paul is making me scared
Walk into this room and swaggers like God's own messenger
Change the name of my brother
Change the things that he said
Says that he speaks to him
But he never even knew the man
Like water through my hands
You'd give him any ending
But if he's all you say
Would he fly from heaven
To this world again
To this world again
Take whatever you're needing
Take whatever you can
We are broken from within
Run to another land
Water through my hands
Or is it just beginning
But if he's all you say
Would he fly from heaven
To this world again
To this world again
They took my brother
They ripped him from me
To twist his words as they did his body
Denied his family
Denied his beauty
To lay him down at the feet
Of those he couldn't save
Couldn't save, couldn't save
Will it be the end
Or is he still ascending
But if he's all you say
Would he fly from heaven
To this world again
To this world again
ETA: and why not, here's an mp3 of the song. It is great soundwise too. ETA2: Really great. I love this band so much. They were so unique among the bands of the time that kinda sounded like them. And they still are, even disbanded. sigh...
