alright, i'm writing this review not immediately as i usually do, but a while after i saw the episodes, and before having read anyone else's reviews too. let's see how much i remember.

Shall i attempt to keep these separate? Ok maybe.

Ep 12. Well, here was a very interesting premise. not sure it was executed perfectly, but still a really really good episode. i had always suspected that Jack's name may have been borrowed from someone else, since...i dunno, it never seemed very 51st century, you know? made sense that he would have borrowed it in the 40's. still an interesting reveal about jack. and FINALLY some decent backstory. That bit about whatever war he went to fight in as a kid and watching his friend die, that was all brilliant. what didn't exactly sit well with me was the budding romance between Jack and OG!Jack. because...well, i guess they were pushing it too hard. it was pretty clear that's where they were going from the beginning. And it didn't make much sense. Yes, it makes sense that Jack would feel an emotional connection to the man whose name he borrowed and who he knew was going to die. However, the odds of the other guy, an army captain in the 40's being so drawn by him that he was willing to dance with him and snog the bejeezus out of him on a dancefloor filled with WWII soldiers? i don't buy that for a minute. yes, it was all magical and rift opening to get them back and last kiss and a thank you and a goodbye and everything fairytalish and that was all good, but I don't even buy that TW!Jack would go for it, knowing the repercusions for OG!Jack. HOWEVER, and this is a big however, did opening the rift (again?) in the final episode, erase what happened in that 1941 as it erased all the other rift activity? did Jack know it would, if it did? I'm not clear on this. Otherwise, i just cannot buy that ending as plausible. sorry.

Also, i was very distracted by OG!Jack's mascara in that scene in lover's corner, or whatever it was called.

Owen and Ianto. Ok, finally we have official confirmation of Jack/Ianto. Which we all knew, but it was nice to see other characters mention it. that whole fight between them culminating in Ianto being hott with a gun was all quite good...except i don't quite buy Owen in this scenario being so desperate to get Dianne back when she wanted to leave him in the first place. it just felt a little...off. also, Ianto's no i'm really serious voice is distracting in its gruffness. minor point. i'm glad he followed through on shooting Owen. And i'm glad Owen called him on Lisa. And i'm glad Ianto was all, fuck you dude, that's not even close to the same thing.

Gwen. Dude. props for figuring out stuff, but ayr? Creepy haunted house and creepier caretaker? get the fuck out of there and handle from a distance. she had her serious face on too. everyone did in this episode. drama drama! ok, so i don't have much to say about Gwen this time. i'm probably forgetting something.

Tosh! Yay Tosh! she's really the one that saved the day. Fucking cut her hand and wrote in her own blood? That's badass. Also, handling being Japanese in 1941...she handled it well. brave, but still our little frightened Tosh. I loved it. Also, kudos to her for demanding some backstory on Jack. yay!

all and all a very good episode, if for nothing else than because every character had significant parts to play. a great lead up to the finale and lots of hotness (tho i wish the real Jack was actually attractive...is that just me? did anyone else find him hot at all?)

alright. Finale. The End of Days. i could sum it up in two words:

EEEEEEEEEeeeEEEEEeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! TARDIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i've been blissfully unspoiled for Torchwood and thank GOD for that. but i'm a bit spoiled (unintentially) for what that last bit implies, that will be coming up on S3 of DW (and gah how long do i have to wait for THAT!). so i was wondering the whole time if it was possible that the Doctor would show up in this ep. I decided that it wasn't really possible as no doubt a spoiler of that magnitude would have slipped thru my tough shield. there was one point early on in the episode when i was sure something had to be at least mentioned about him. That there needed to be at least something referrenced that happens offscreen, because no WAY would the Doctor stay away from something like this. Wherever/whenver he is at the time that the rift goes wonky? he's gonna find out and find the cause. still, i knew we wouldn't actually see him show up. that ending was enough for my little fangirl heart. cuz we can imagine what happened. in a way. i'm not entirely sure. i can imagine there's already 52000 fics. did the TARDIS materialize around Jack? Did Jack run into it? How is it that Gwen didn't really see it at all? oh why do i have to wait so long for answers? and Jack/Ten interaction. oh i may die.

other than that. um. i had stuff to say. sorry, i got a little lost in the squee. Very intersting sorta twist with all the crew's sorta demons tempting them. Was Billis doing all of that? Was it whatshisface i'm the son of the devil guy doing it? was he manipulating the dead? Or were they just visions? i dunno. i guess its not super important. The Rhys thing was pretty great. I love it when he gets angry. I was SURE he'd stay dead too. Brilliant how they all banded together to do the bad bad thing and Jack totally called them on their shit. Especially his comment to Ianto. duh dude, they shot your girlfriend, 'member? Gwen going apeshit was also fabulous. Owen's motivation, still confounds me a bit. Jack kicking him out, also a little odd. why did he do that again? totally didn't expect Owen to shoot Jack, either. but i'm glad that secret is out of the way too.

now, on to the Demon of Lame. Ok, were the graphics people on holiday? I enjoyed the shotout to the Satan Pit, and i guess the sorta plot aspect of the demon was kinda ok (altho if his minion Billis could see all of history, wouldn't he know that earth or humankind or whatever doesn't get destroyed? hmm?). but the demon was so lame and not scarey!!! alright, maybe it was cuz i was watching it around 6:30 in the morning, but wtf? and while i appreciate Jack being the hero, his Big Death Scene wasn't as climactic as i would have liked. and i dunno, the whole emotional resonance of the episode sputtered horribly for me here with the lameness of the demon.

but the aftermath of all that was spectactular. Gwen cradling Jack as she did Rhys. Gwen staying by his body for days (days, really?). Her kiss waking him up. Jack smacking one on Ianto in front of god and everybody. Jack's forgiveness of Owen and Owen sobbing like a baby. All splendid. And of course, eeeeeee! Tardis!!!!!
