ok. apparently i am not the average viewer of this show. or the average fangirl or whatever. judging by the comments in the comm i'm in. cuz last week, everyone was like weeeeeeee! squeee!!!! and i was like, wtf was that drek? and this week everyone is like eeww! horror! and eeeww ship! and i'm like that ep totally rawked in its fuckedupedness. and its horror and hottness. and it actually you know, made sense. unlike last week.

Torturer!Jack. w.t.f. this seemed to me to be a HUGE revelation and no one has said a thing in the torchwood community that i'm too lazy to do an lj tag for. i'm assuming he was referring to his job as a time agent, but i'm not sure. could be any one of his previous jobs. i wish this had been a little more informative. also, shootout at the end? jack all roaring? what was that about. he walks such a strange line between fiercely protective and seeming like he doesn't really care about his people. well, i know he cares, but he's all about the greater good. the best odds kinda guy. at least, THIS jack is. so i'm a little confused.

Gwen/Owen as canon. Well. I maybe could have used another scene of buildup. that voiceover and walk through the street...didn't seem enough to bring her into his flat, barely dressed post shag (i assume). people are squeeing and squicking both. and i'm kinda in the middle. i love that gwen is just as fucked up as the rest of them. just because she's our human connection doesn't mean she's not weak. she's not inpenetrable. she's affected by everything, and she can't talk to the person she loves. what is she going to do? i think a hookup with someone on that team was inevitable. and Owen is the most likely to encourage and take her up on it. and lets face it. that scene in the forrest was pretty damn hot.

overall. i loved the fact that they were assuming the rift was spreading and it was rampaging people-eating aliens and it turned out to be just cannibalistic freaks. i mean yeah, took a little suspension of disbelief to believe a whole village would be into this and it happens every ten years. but hello, we're talking about a show that's about a special ops team that deals with aliens. anything's possible. the plot held together SO much better than last week's which was just all over the damn place. the characterizations were excellent. everyone was involved. we learned things about every single one of them. a LOT about all of them, i think. it was balanced for the ensemble better than any of the episodes so far. the suspense was excellent. the gross was a little bit over the top, but not TOO bad (i coulda done without the maggots, thanks). but overall, a strong episode. definitely renewed my shaken faith in the show.

next week, Tosh. oh my. i was a little spoiled for this, i think. i wish people in comms would quit dropping in bits from the website and stuff. some of us are seriously spoilerphobic. yeesh. anyway, seems interesting. i love the recurring theme of one of the team fucking up and putting them all in danger. it works for drama.

yay torchwood.

more later, perhaps, when my thoughts are better collected.
