they actually were pretty good. and i didn't think they would be, cuz the cookies were so/so and the frosting wasn't very good either. but together they were perfect. it was kinda weird. :)

It's part of my name. I was born two months early and only weighed about two pounds (about a kilogram). Being all small and purple and fragile, my parents named me after the purple orchid, a rather rare color for orchids, apparently. So my name (yi lan) means "rare orchid", and the "orchid" part (lan) is what you see here. Of course on my birth certificate they didn't put down my "chinese" name at all. Instead they just incorporated it, kind of, by using "Elaine" for my middle name on my birth certificate, which sounds almost exactly like "yi lan". And also, my sister is named "Eileen", which is originally from "Helen" (of Troy) just like "Elaine" (and whatever the Greek version of "Helen" is, means "beautiful," reputedly).

Basically, our parents were nerdy english/foreign language professors (and my dad is Chinese).

interesting. i'm an english/foreign language nerd meself. :) my name means ray of light. (well, that's what karenor means, karen just means "ray" in hebrew). most people think its a derivative of katherine, which it may be also. covergent evolution. oh and i was also two months premature. but i didn't get a cool name out of it. ;)

incidentally, i don't think i know your first name at all.

My first name is Carole, which they picked because they are particularly French language nerds/professors, and they like the French spelling (with the 'e'). :-)

Your name is great, and you had it WAY before Madonna and her kabala and her ray of light cd came out, BWAHAHAH! ;-)

Two little preemies. So cute. My mom said there was a superstitious night nurse who would pray to St. Jude (the Saint of lost causes or something, we are not at all religious, this is just what she told my mom) for me. She would -- gasp -- feed me, too. The day nurse thought I was "growing too fast" and didn't feed me enough, apparently. I was in that incubator for about two months (I was born 19 November 1969), and came home from the hospital on Richard Nixon's birthday in January, which pissed my parents off royally (because duh, this was during the Vietnam War and Watergate). So they actually liked that I was born early, because the idea of me being born on time, on that day in January, freaked them out.
