i've been messing for HOURS trying to change my layout. after like...2 years, i figured i should customize (even tho i still haven't put anything in my userinfo, hah!). so i searched for an image, and then photoshopped it till it pleased me. THAT was the easy part. then came trying to figure out how to modify it. First i found some page that told me i needed to create a custom theme layer, which i did. but then for the LIFE of me i couldn't figure out how to apply that layer. trying to figure this out is what took the most time. finally i checked out the html source code for
about_worth's journal and figured out what part pertained to the layout, copied and pasted it into a new document and modified to sort of suit my needs. i wanted to keep it as similar as possible to my normal plain layout, just with the background image and the transparent background (on top of the image). i mostly figured all that out. what i haven't figured out is if there is a way to CENTER the image (not the text), because its not quite big enough to fill the whole background. i don't want to make the background image bigger, cuz i know that would mess with people who have a lower res than mine (but then, it prolly already does). so now there is an awkward band of black, about half an inch wide on the right side of the screen. if i could make it a quarter inch on each side, then it wouldn't be so bad. guh. it looks not horrible the way it is, but i think i'll get really sick of looking at my friends page like this. also i lost the neat little color coded boxes that wrapped around my friends' userpics that help me easily differentiate. what's up with that?
i ended up making all the changes in the style override box on the S1 modify page. is there a better way to do all this? and can anyone think of a better color than white that is readable on both the dark and light parts of the screen.
