i didn't so much care for michael penn. and only partly because i found him the least attractive person to grace largo's stage... ok, i'm gonna be really shallow right now, that was a BIG part of it. i had no idea what he looked like and he has a mighty sexy voice and his appearance SO does not match. and my friends afterwords were all swooning about how sexy he is and i just. don't. get. it. i found him prohibitively unattractive. but more than that, i just was very not into his tunes...he's very one-level. his lyrics are too cynical to be moving most of the time, and the other times...well, i dunno...i drifted off. not literally i just wasn't paying attention. my gumwrapper was infinitely more interesting. and the whole while i was just pissed that everyone was paying good money tonight to see him and therefore would not want to spend a (much more deserved) same amount on glen the next night. duran duran aside. i guess i just went with high expactions. my friend Sara told me after the last time she saw michael penn that he was "everything glen tries to be". thems was fightin words and i really did have to see what it was all about. and i was so just...unamazed. and i feel...disloyal to glen. after i've missed him twice in a row i go to largo the DAY before a glen show and spend my hard earned money on someone i dont even like, just cuz my friends want to go. it hardly seems right.

i'm being to harsh. he was good. just not my type really. and i couldn't even say why. he doesn't exude the goodnaturedness and personality of glen, i guess. and i hate to continually compare him to glen. but what can you do, smart sensitive guy with a guitar..and the only other artist i've ever seen (headline) at largo...hmmm...now i feel like i really NEED to see glen tomorrow....what to do????

oh apparently aimee mann was sitting right behind me...didn't notice. whatevers.

i don't know if you guys know who he is. he's a syndicated humor columnists and general funny writer. he has a blog where he just links funny things mostly. here's what he recently posted. i think we should all participate.

For the next two weeks, this blog will be on vacation in a large rural western state that might not even have electricity, let alone the Internet. So there will be no blogging, or at most very little, until approximately August.

MEANWHILE, however, this blog has a little project to amuse anybody who is interested, involving a wonderful site called www.poetry.com, which was brought to this blog's attention by alert reader Laura Stark. Aspiring poets can go there and submit poems in the poetry contest, and maybe even -- incredibly -- have their poems selected for inclusion in heirloom-quality-bound volumes that are -- What are the odds of this? -- for sale!

So anyway, this blog was just thinking how interesting it would be if a whole bunch of people submitted poems that contained a certain key poetic phrase. To see how it might work, this blog submitted a poem under the pen name of "Freemont A. Harkins," entitled: "A Sad Day." Here's how it goes:

A Sad Day

i am sad, so very sad
the tears run down my nose
it was a happy day until
the dog ate mother's toes

You can see this poem at www.poetry.com, using the search engine to search for "Freemont Harkins." Wouldn't it be fun if a lot of people submitted poems using a Pen Name that began with "Freemont" and incorporating the phrase, "the dog ate mother's toes"? Then we all could search for poems written under the first name of "Freemont" -- currently, this blog is the only one -- and see how creative everybody was!

Or would that be wrong?

Anyway, see you in August.

Love,

Freemont A. Harkins

ok, i just saw the movie "Crush" with Andie Mcdowell which i highly recommend everyone see if for no other reason than its original title was "Sad F**kers Club". it's a total chick flick, but i don't care. i cried. a lot.

and i'm totally in love with the actor in it who has the unfortunate name of Kenny Doughty. He still manages to be uberhot even with a name like that. i've scoured the net for pictures of him, but mostly what's out there is two or three movie stills. He's a very small time actor, tho he was in the movie Elizabeth. anyway, here's a couple pics from the movie.
