karenor | Torchwood 02X06: Reset

Is RTD taking lessons from Joss Whedon? Really? Because that’s textbook Joss, making a character loveable (I always liked Owen, btw) and then fucking killing them off in a way completely extraneous to the plot. I broke my cardinal rule and watched the trailer for next week to confirm whether or not he was actually dead, because who the fuck knows with this show. And it seems like he is, and if so, the forthcoming rant is, in my opinion, completely justified. And if he’s not really dead, if they retcon it, because apparently that’s REALLY easy to do with huge developments on this show, then maybe I’ll retract it.

I should have known. Really, I should have. When I was all set to cheer for Tosh for growing some damn balls. I swear, I’m not a fickle viewer who abandons a show I love when something doesn’t go my way, but if not for the obvious who tie ins, and the fact that I’m sorta getting to love Jack again, I would actually consider dropping the show for this. It was cheap, and totally not worthy of the character, and I’m not watching any of the damn declassifieds that will no doubt tell me that this is the way life is in the ‘real’ world, people die all the time for no good reason. I don’t WANT that from MY SHOW.

Because what it seems like to me, right now, is that he killed to make room for Martha. Maybe others were spoiled for this, I wasn’t. I certainly didn’t think Martha would be a permanent addition to Torchwood. She works for UNIT, doesn’t she? So why the fuck would they need to kill off Owen for her? WHY??? Owen was one of the best things about this show. I know a lot of people didn’t like him, had it in for him since the first episode where he was possibly going to be a rapist or whatever, and may be cheering right now, but I don’t CARE. He was fully redeemed by the end of last series, and he was even more so by middle of this one. I can’t imagine the dynamic of the team without him. I certainly can’t imagine it with Martha in his place.

I’m probably not in the right frame of mood to discuss how I feel about her right now. Let’s just say there weren’t many surprises on that end. Except maybe that the Doctor set her up with UNIT. That was kind of nice. And I liked her purple top. And hey look a new tattoo.

I don’t think I can even comment on the rest of the episode either right now. Yeah, I’m still angry. There will probably be a review of ep 5 later on. I liked it very much.
