Torchwood 02X01

karenorOk. I didn't love or hate it. Which is good. Ish. I really didn't want to hate it. I was not bowled over, but there was more good than bad. Lets go over what I was wanting to see...
I'd like some more background on Owen and Tosh, to be truthful, but I'm still hoping for a lot of Gwen. And more implied/possible/maybe Gwen/Jack which was truly the most interesting thing about S1 for me.
YAY on this. Tosh/Owen was cute. I hope they continue in this vein. And I'm sorry, but no matter what happens, I'm all about the Gwen/Jack. The end "tell him I--" was dumb (though i did think it was interesting that she thought of Jack and not Reese, but that's not anything we don't know), but I love love love LOVED the scene down in the basement, or whatever, when she asked where he went and he finds out she's engaged. This is how you do UST and omgtheytotallylovechother people! Take a note.
No episodes like Small Worlds that tease with Jack's history and completely fail at everything in general. More episodes like They Keep Killing Suzie that are funny and dark and scary and wonderful.
This was somewhere in the middle, like I said. It had a plot, thank jeebus, but it also had some BA plot holes too. There were at least a couple instances where it looked like chunks were taken out of the script. We knew right off the bat that John (was that it?...what's with the JH stuff?) was bad, though, and I wish they'd played that a little closer to the chest. I'd have loved to be surprised.
Funny Ianto. I really want less emo all around for this show. Please?
Stopwatch FTW!!! Yes, that was awesome. However, it was marred by the fact that Gwen's life was immediately in danger. But it was cute. I did like the less emo-ness. Good times. Ianto calling for a Taxi in the beginning was brilliant, as was their conversation in the taxi about missing Jack. They're so cute. *squishes TW team*

Yup. I'm still over it. Especially since Jack is clearly in love with Gwen. However, that bit in the office? That was cute. Ianto was all flustered but playing it cool. I do love Ianto, really I do. His incessant eyerolls got a wee bit old by the end of the ep, though. I still liked his jealousy.
More Myfanwy!
FAIL!!!! We get a new person in the hub, who might not be disturbed by such a thing as a dinosaur flying about and thus might have an interesting reaction, and we get nothing? WTF? Did they sell Myfanwy to redecorate and put in that ugly conference room? BOO! HISS!
Other points:
-No mention of the Himalayas, the whole Saxon thing? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that STILL happened to them. Time was reset back to right after the VP was assassinated, right? They'd already have been sent off. How long HAS it been. I wish they'd been clear. We don't know when the Doctor dropped off Jack, but it doesn't seem like it's been that long. A few days to a couple weeks, tops, by the look of things. I bit more about this would have been nice, for continuity's sake.
-"That's a poodle." Yay!
-Owen's "Did he fix you?" was brilliantly delivered. I wanted more about the Doctor, yeah, obviously, but I loved that moment, a lot.
-WTF with the Torchwood-mobile? Lit up like Vegas? Ok, so clearly super sekrit isn't even an issue anymore. Well, I'm ok with that, I guess. As long as they don't pretend it is. I did love the old lady's "Bloody Torchwood." hee.
-The big reveal? Grey, was it? It sounded different when Gwen said it. A LITTLE more would have been nice. Don't tease a la LOST, people. That was a major flaw in S1. A moment longer on that image would have been nice. Jack's kid or something? Interesting. I'm intrigued, but a bit peeved at how it was done. Oh well.
-And you may note I had nothing to say about JM. Yup, still nothing. I'm a bit meh about the whole thing. Wish he wouldn't have had an accent...
-I did not watch the trailer for next week. See, I gots willpower, y'all.
All in all. I was expecting a 5 and got about a 7ish out of 10, i think. 6.5? If it wasn't a first episode after a million years, I might have rated it higher.
