American Doll Posse
May. 2nd, 2007 10:22 amNow, who am I to judge genius, but... Oh, Tori.
This album is unbelievably bad. Worst EVER. Worse than Strange Little Girls. The second half of the album is more listenable than the second half, but there isn't even ONE song on the whole album that I can say i LOVE. Strange Little Girls had that. Beekeeper had like 2 or 3. There's a couple of songs on this that i sorta kinda like ok. The better songs are the shorts, intersticials, whatever. My 'favorite' on the album is "Devils and Gods" and that's under a minute. "Body and Soul" is good but for the chorus, I like "Father's Son" ok, as well as "Code Red" and "Roosterspur Bridge". "Darkside of the Sun" is good but for some stupid lyrics, and I like "Smokey Joe", probably my second favorite on the album. "Dragon" is meh, but not last song material at all.
It's mostly listenable from track 11 onwards, but the beginning? I don't know if i'll ever listen to that again ("Bouncing of Clouds" is kinda ok).
But it's Tori. And i really expected to go, yeah, this song, that's why this album is worth the money. I mean, c'mon Beekeeper had "Beekeeper" and "Marys of the Sea" (which of course the lyrics on this icon are from) which are both amazing. Otherwise I dislike the album almost entirely. But this one is just... even at it's best, it's really quite...meh.
I was hoping, maybe for another Scarlet's Walk, but I guess it's just not meant to be. Now i don't even really feel like going to any shows. Which is, if you know me and my Tori show-going history, pretty much unheard of. Since I started seeing Tori live, the least amount of times I'd see her per leg of tour has been 5 times. I don't know what my count is now. It's not crazy like the groupies, but I think it's over 50. And now, i wouldn't wanna go unless i knew it was going to be a good set...and with 23 songs from this album, i think they'll be in high rotation. ugh.
