oh morrissey...for you i have deafened myself... for you i stepped in gum and vomit and god nearly crushed myself. for you i paid four dollars for a cup of water...

the show was crazy nuts like i haven't seen in a long time. and LOUD. i can barely hear my typing past the ringing in my ears right now.

shall i start at the beginning? well, we left at about 2:30, the plan being to get there early and to have a good spot. now the Wiltern is...hmmm...maybe fifteen miles away from me? 20? not more than that. but the freeway was sucking big ass and there was an accident about halfway thru the drive, so everything before that was a crawl. we got there at...i dunno, a quarter to 4, i spose. then we sat on the sidewalk, around the corner from the entrance. for a few hours. there were already...i'm not sure, maybe three hundred people in front of us. maybe more. gotta love ga shows. well i suppose i don't have to mention the heat as i whined about it all day yesterday. but it was HOT. very very. even in the city which is about 10 degrees cooler than here in the valley. that made it...oh only about 95 there. and we were out in the sun. playing cards. my purse landed in a huge wad of gum. but we were smart and stayed still and hydrated. they opened the doors around 7ish and everyone was already drenched in sweat from standing in the setting sun waiting to get in.

we got a fairly ok spot. center, near the front of the second tier. now for those of you not familiar with the Wiltern, its a 20s-30s old movie house turned live music venue, and just recently gutted of its seats. very similar to the Warfield in San Francisco. so it has three or four tiers where once their were seats. the bottom tier, aka, the pit, restricts the number of people allowed into it. everywhere else is fair game. so needless to say...the seond tier got waaaay crazy.

morrissey fans are NUTS. you wouldn't think it by the music. but you might by his rep. people jumping up on stage, crazy crowd surfing...i can't count how many times i saw this guy turned completely upside down in the audience, with his legs up in the air. i thought he was gonna crack his head open. someone threw a burning shirt on stage, a bra, a shoe, water bottles. girls were flashing. the girl next to me passed out before morrissey even came on. i got practically malested during the opening act when a guy pushed his way up and when it was clear that i wouldn't let him in front of me, he plastered himself, his whole body, onto my back. it was so gross. i elbowed him till he went away. the Killers who opened are a fun band. i like their single better than the rest of their songs, but they are still pretty rockin. the song is called "Somebody told me" and they have a fun kinda retro-y sound. there was a half hour break and i was seriously thinking about getting out of that crowd before morrissey came on. it was the sixty dollars i paid keeping me there, i think. the crowd pressed in and in and in. that house was packed so tight. it must have been oversold. it was such a crazy fire hazard in there. but anyway, i stuck it out till morrissey came on. they lift the curtain and keep everything dark for oh...five minutes or so...then they play this song which has no one on stage for another five or six mintues...then some more time goes and and his morrisseyness finally takes the stage. god he is such a diva. so bitchy and yet so incredibly amazingly cool. my friend called him a diva/superhero. and its so true. he dances around and pets himself and swings his corded mircrophone like he is the hottest thing in the world. which of course, he is when he's on that stage. i could only stand being crammed there with like no circulation and barely breathing for so long. it was hot and i was in tremendous amounts of pain. i bailed out of the crowd about an hour into morrissey's set. i crawled and shoved and elbowed my way out of the crowd to the aisle and ran out to the lobby. where i purchased said cup of water and sat in one seat in a little row they have out of the lobby of chairs they pulled out of the theater. never has a wiltern seat been so comfy. so i inhaled my water and three advil liquitabs and listened to sounds my body was making as well as the sounds coming from beyond the doors. i could still hear perfectly. i sat thru...maybe three songs. not more than that. i tried to get up during "everyday is like sunday" but it wasn't happening. finally i went back in when he started his new single "irish blood english heart" which i really like. and i went back down to the second tier, but stayed near the aisle and actually got to dance and entertain myself. but it was the last song before the encore, so it didn't last long. the encore was only one song long, but it was "shoplifters..." and it was fun.

and out into the hot night we went. and it is infinately more hotter here. our house thermostat, reads 78 which means it is actually about 80+ in the house and a few degrees hotter in my room. at 12:30 at night. this is nuts.

anyway, i know that was a fairly shabby description of the show. honestly i was focusing more on how uncomfortable i was than anything else. which is a shame cuz morrissey puts on a fantastic show.

when i think of more to say, i'll post more. or if i can find the setlist...

now i must collapse and sleep for like 15 hours. k?
