my browser was doing something crazy and weird. it would freeze up, randomly, and make my whole computer not work. tie up the cpu to 100 for a few minutes then go back to normal. totally randomly. kept doing it. i restarted and it still did it. i ran virus and spyware checks and nothing really came up. so i installed a newer version of the browser (netscape, btw, i'm loyal to the oldschool. but its just firefox anyway, mostly), and it seems to be working. haven't had a problem since i installed the new one. and it kept all my bookmarks and all. so i hope it stays working cuz that was scary. i cannot afford fo my computer to die on me right now. it's too new too. what is it, like...a year? i have no clue. i know it was after i moved here. i distinctly remember having like a breakdown when my old one bit the dust (that was a good loyal workhorse. lasted the longest of any of mine. maybe 4 years or so. it was an emachines i was convinced was going to die right away too...).

anyway, i hope this is just a browser issue (that i hope is resolved now) because i'm not in any way emotionally prepared for computer problems now. not even a little bit. so can everyone think good thoughts for my poor wittle computer? *pets*

thanks. and while you're at it, wish death to the bugs that are eating me alive. choke on my blood you little bastards. and it's only february, yo.

sigh...

Ew, bugs ... it's too cold here right now, but during the summer (in addition to the usual punks like mosquitos) we have black flies, which when they bite you leave a very nasty little hole where your skin used to be. When we are kayaking during black fly season we have to dress like storm troopers just to avoid being eaten alive. *gah*

Sending very, very good thoughts & mojo to your computer ... :)

it's mostly fleas, i think. i live near a dog park and as soon as it gets a wee bit warm they come out to get me. i'm allergic, and apparently very tastey. they bite me more than they bite normal people and then i can't not scratch till i break skin.

and thanks for the computer mojo. ;) all systems go so far. we'll see later this afternoon, after work.

Okay, this might sound utterly crazy (but hear me out) *lol* Fleas are repelled by the smell of garlic. I don't know if you are a garlic lover (I am), but if you are this will be a labor of love and an excuse to eat more garlic! ;)

Backstory: they actually have garlic tablets for dogs which are designed to go into their food and over time, the aroma of garlic (undetectable to our senses) builds up in their skin and is apparently very unpleasant for fleas (making it a natural, non-toxic flea repellent).

And I know eating garlic tends to work the same way for us, because I remember waking up many mornings after having eaten a ton of garlic the night before only to find my cat (who usually slept in my bed every night) sitting clear on the opposite side of the room, glaring at me with a look of utter disdain! *lol*

i AM a garlic lover. maybe i don't eat enough. how much is enough? i eat green olives stuffed with whole cloves...a couple every few days. pasta sauce with whole cloves, and minced or dried garlic every time i cook, almost. do garlic pills for people work? cuz i'm willing to try anything. spraying my carpet with flea killer worked before, but now i think they're becoming immune or something.

Hmmm, sounds like you're already eating a lot of garlic ... I'm surprised it's not helping more! *bummer* Yes, you might try the garlic pill supplements as that allows you to get a higher dose ... and garlic is actually a super healthy food to eat anyway, so you probably can't go wrong either way!

Yes, they are hardy little bastards. We'd be in serious trouble if they ever grew any larger than they already are ... our reign on this planet would be over very quickly. *gah*

It is possible they're becoming immune to that particular spray; maybe a vet's office could sell you a stronger, more potent version? Just be careful of the fumes; we got one from our vet yrs ago but only with the heartfelt promise that we handled it like nuclear waste ... and avoided all direct contact with it.

well i just went out and bought a bunch of garlic to roast and supplements, as well. can't hurt, right? :) we'll see if it does any good.

Nope, can't hurt and garlic's a great immunity booster either way. Best of luck with it!! I hope it helps. :) Barring the garlic, though, your only other resort might be a bit stronger flea spray (much as I despise chemicals). I'd have a talk with a local vet and see what they suggest, too. They may have some other options for you. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
