am i weird in that i don't like reading fanfic when a show is currently on? hiatus is ok, over with is sometimes better, gives a writer total freedom from canon. but while its totally active....i just find it a bit weird.

how can i explain it. it's like, i'm not a huge fan of AU (yes i make a lot of exceptions). and i like things in character as they can be. i defer to canon, especially in a show i really love (which are really the only ones i read fic in). the writers are the show's god, and i like the stories they tell, and i want my fic to fit in with that. so when there is fic about something that just happened and we have no idea how it will be handled in subsequent eps... which isn't to say i don't like ep tags, i just don't want to read them right away. and i don't think they should be written right away, but that's just me, i guess. ep tags are more interesting when we have more backstory or future reactions to work with. i think.

for me, fic is about getting my fix when i can't any other way. so it's all a bit redundant when the show is on. well, not always. ok, even i break my rules sometimes being impatient. a week is a long time, yo.
