for the life of me, i can't make a stupid black background show up. aaaaaarrrrrgggg.

i put up a background picture for now. cuz at least that works. now. i'll be sick of it in a day and also, hello huge bandwith usage. my host won't love that. but what else can i do??? i don't wanna stare at a white background. i suppose i could take a tiny image of blackness and set it to tile... but that's kinda silly. and can i even do that? [edit. i did that. it works. but i'm not HAPPY about it.]

it's really pissing me off, the whole thing. i don't want anything majorly complicated, just black in the background, how hard is that??? there's no reason it shouldn't be working. everything else seems to work fine. all the other colors and various gizmatrons. but for some reason, the background color is always missing. no matter what color. if anyone has any ideas, please help.
