AAAH! My New Years was CRAZY! I'm much more the stay at home on NYE type of gal...but this year went all out. Toad the Wet Sprocket concert at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip and party at a nearby hotel all night. Woo...here's basically how it went:

i was way closer than i ever need to be at a rock show. i was inches from glen which made me more self conscious than anything, but it was still cool. they kept us standing for like 8 hours...literally. Doors opened at 8, we were there about 2 hours early, and once inside they did not let us sit on the floor, and Toad didn't take the stage till 11:15. The show was great. Long. They did they whole Auld Lang Syne thing at midnight. I got a silly hat, but the champagne didn't make it up to us at the front. After the show was very fun. Someone fenagled wristbands for our whole group for the bar upstairs "on the rox" where the band was supposed to come out and mingle. We went up for a bit, but it was cramped and smelly and there was loud rap music, and no Toad, so we came down (you have to go out of the Roxy and up a stairway to get up there). So we were standing outside of the Roxy, just waiting around, trying to gather our people to go back to the hotel down the street we were crashing in, and the band trickles out of the Roxy on the way to the bar upstairs. I basically convince glen he doesn't want to go up there, cuz it sucks (yes, i talked to him, like a normal human being even, i was very proud of myself). So glen and dean hang out for a bit and chat with people. I asked glen very politely to sign my ticket stub. He signed it "Karen, YES! [signiture thingy]" It was very cute. I even got a picture. I forgot i was wearing a cheezy NYE hat, but that's ok, it was festive. He was very personable and nice, and i wasn't freaking out one bit like the last time i spoke to glen. Go me. I also spoke to dean a little, but i don't remember about what...he also signed my ticket stub, but i smeared most of his sig with my thumb after. Todd did too, but Randy disappeared quickly to the back of the venue. Then it was back to party at the hotel, and really all manner of people showed up there. We had two rooms, so it was cool, you could escape the noisy room for a while if need be, which i did. i was so dead tired after standing so long...and hungry, but pretty jazzed from the night's experience. Then we learn that todd and joe are supposed to show up. Joe is Toad's merch/management dude that is always nice to us, and Todd is Todd Nichols, Toad's guitarist. "Nobody sing any toad songs with those guitars!" eep. Yeah, they did show up. Right after i came back from a spell in the quiet room. It was weird...but cool. Everyone kinda has to pretend that's he's not in the band...you know? Don't talk about the show, don't make him feel weird. We were good. He offered us all chexmix that Joe's mom made. I mean like got up and walked around to everyone and offered. It was cute. He's very quiet. It was fun. At one point, Todd stepped out and and someone started a Toad song on the guitar, with the joking plan that they would break into "breakfast at tiffany's" (yeah that anying pop song) if he came back in. And he did and they jumped right into the chorus of that song, it was very funny. Anyway, most of the people not staying left around 4...5...I dunno. We didn't get to sleep till like 7 in the morning. Partay! Woo! I got a bed. I was pleased. Tho only for a little while, cuz we had to be up pretty early for checkout. I woke up to Leslie calling the front desk informing them that the party upstairs (even wilder than ours which all in all, was quite tame) threw beer cans all over our balcony as well as provided us with a New Years gift of vomit, also on the balcony. Fun stuff. I guess she just wanted to let them know it wasn't our fault. It was pretty funny actually. I've never been in a hotel with so many simultaneous parties before. For breakfast or lunch rather, we went to the Farmer's Market at the Grove...where i'd never been and that was cool. But i was unshowered and cranky and damn my legs hurt. i didn't get home till like 3pm today at which point i promptly passed out for two hours. i set the alarm clock, so i'll actually be able to sleep tonight.
and that in a nutshell, was my experience. i hope the pictures turn out. i will be pleased.

Hope everyone had fun.

Happy New Year!!!

p.s. i know i promised more tori roadtrip stories, sue me.

awww. thanks. I know i should post more, but i've been in a vegatative funk.

glen was actually very cool, which was nice. his family was with him in san francisco and (as the story goes) he was quite rude to a girl who came all the way from florida to see him in an opening band. we were all kinda miffed by that. so i was glad he was cheery and seemed into it. it didn't even occur to me to be freaked out. guess it seemed silly to be so after standing like a foot away from him all night. ;) i go see him solo at Largo next week. yay!

Aw, don't worry about not posting more. I've been totally slack in that area too, so I can't talk.

Yay for solo shows! How cool!!
