I get very distracted by minutia and spend hours trying a million different things and usually end up with what i started with. In this case, I liked like the third thing I tried. And then tried some variants and couldn't decide which I liked best.

So two icons from that scene from Doctor Who 04x13 (well, the Confidential, technically). Ok. two versions of ONE icon. sigh...

cut for spoilers )

meh. I'm still not satisfied. But if anyone wants, take.

I threatened to do something like this, and I'm quite embarrassed to say I spent hours (many) on them. Because I suck at giving up stuff to make the icon fit in under the 40k limit. Once I finally figured it out, I couldn't decide which version I like better. Obviously the bigger text is easier to read, but with the smaller images, it looks best with the uniform black frame. I think. Whatever. Snag if you like (credit, please). I may try again later or with different images or text or what have you.

I know, I'm big on memes these days. Eh, i'll stop spamming sooon.

snagged from [livejournal.com profile] ivydoor

Remember your first LJ? The free one with only six icons? In this meme, you have to choose and post the six icons you would keep if you had no choice but go back to the six limit. They don't have to be in your list of icons you're using right now, but you have to explain why you choose those specific six. Next, you have to tag six people to do the same.

to the icons! )

Not tagging, lazy. Meme away if'n you like.

wow, i spent way way way too long on this icon and it's still teh lame. the glowy text is crap.

Getting the caps was the easy part (originally i tired using moviemaker to grab a clip but THAT didn't work AT ALL). So I used KMPlayer to cap. Then I altered each individual frame in photoshop, before moving on to animation shop. There MUST be a better program for making gifs out there, right?

Anyway, making the icon was simple. Getting it under 40k, not simple. First i just resized it (i think i took out a frame or two) and it was cute: Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

but i didn't want it that small.

making the icon with a larger background THEN resizing it gave me crap quality before optimization. SO, i went back into photoshop, and altered each frame (AGAIN) to have a smaller image on the same size base.

And after endless futzing, removing and adding frames, and playing with the optimization settings, i've ended up here. i think i'll try it with different text tomorrow. mebbe. i mean, different effects on the text. same words. cuz... guh.

i think this took me like 3 and a half hours. that aint right.

i'm out of practice on animations. and don't think i've ever done one with speech. feh.

ok, goodnight. if anyone wants it, feel free to snag, with credit.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] principia_coh reminded that i actually have ImageReady. Duh, me. I did use that a while back. Soooo much easier. Especially for optimization. However, the result? I dunno, not really noticibly different. Except for an extra frame at the end with the text making it a little smoother. The quality seems about the same, methinks. Thoughts, comparing this one to the one used as icon right now? Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
