I liked it! And now...

I love Clara. Like love. She is just awesome. She's very... I dunno, real, without being too real. Awesome but flawed enough to make her relatable. And it's done delicately enough that I'm not like, 'oh they're just putting whatever in to make me like her. She feels.... organic.

I liked this episode. A lot. Maybe nearly loved this episode. It had a pretty major problem, that of the beastie itself (because really, why was it all terror-inducing and psychologically oogly booglying if he just wanted his girlfriend back. Why the evil laughing. And another thing... Um, doesn't the Doctor himself have some pretty strong psychic capabilities? Why couldn't he do any of the portal stuff (just because he needed to go to the pocket universe himself?)?

But other than that??? Loved it. Loved the spooky old house on the moor. Loved the ghost-hunter-war-hero-in-love character, and really liked our friendly neighborhood empath (in her rockin'70's dress).

Though, as an aside... dude didn't look quite old enough to be what he said he was in the war, if it was 1974. Whatever.

I think the attention to detail in this was great. The music, the spooky mixed with the comedy, the modern and the old and the very old, and the TARDIS.

THE MISSING HATSTAND!!!!

And Clara, realizing (or not) what it all means. What she thinks humans might be.... Loved it. Not SURE I liked the Doctor's answer. But I loved the moment.

And I think this is Doctor/Companion romantical (yes, romantical) ambiguity done right. Not only do we not know if they're Like That, neither do they! Not yet, anyway. It's weird to really like Clara and really like her with the Doctor and LIKE those will they/won't they touches and NOT ship it, but there I am.

Please to stay this good, show. And don't do last week again. Which wasn't terrible, just... blah.

And there was something... a hint of what's to come in the long run, but I can't remember it now... So, I'll leave you with that.

Someone make me a Clara icon?

I loved it a lot, and had the same thoughts re the psychic stuff, except the whole thing makes my heart hurt, because it's all so hinting at Rose/Ten, and that's not going to happen, or it's going to be ruined, and I'm going to cry again.

Yes, there was some of that love across impossible distances stuff. And I'm scared too of whatever Ten/Rose stuff there might be. Meep.

Doesn't the Doctor himself have some pretty strong psychic capabilities?

Canon approaches this as "whatever psychic abilities happen to be convenient" -- I think in "The Three Doctors" he contacts his other selves remotely; in GitF he has to touch and maintain contact with Reinette's head; and in "The Lodger," he just head-butts Craig. (There are probably other instances of this I'm forgetting, too.) It's also possible that for Very Complicated Story Hand-Waving Purposes, he needed to be an empath instead of merely psychic.

Anyway, I loved this episode -- the acting was terrific, the story was scary as hell, and there was all the Doctor/Clara interaction I felt was totally missing last week. I thought the epilogue was a bit cheesy, but was willing to forgive it because of how good everything else was.

Yeah, very likely.

My thoughts exactly.

Oh, I love Clara, too. And that's amazing, because I would have sworn that Moff couldn't write a character that is this genuine. I'm putting most of my love down to the actress. She doesn't dash up and tell me how great she is every moment...even though...she is pretty great.

As for the non-romance, I have the distinct feeling that we are not supposed to ship Clara and Eleven. I think she might be a great, great grandchild herself or some other forbidden entity. That hot potato reaction tonight was priceless. I agree, the show should definitely stay this good. But I sense those Moff complications looming on the horizon.

It's possible, given the relationship between the characters this week. Blood being a strong connection and all that.

I sense those Moff complications looming on the horizon.

Oh, I'm sure of it. Surely the Mystery Of Clara will be Mofftasic.

Yes! I have really taken to her myself now, I couldn't think what it was but you summed it up with the word "real"

Moffat has said in an interview that Clara and The Doctor do have a "romantic" overture to the relationship, which, well... You know me, I prefer my Doctor sexually ambiguous in the show, the rest is for fic in my head so that does bother me, but it has not stopped my enjoyment of the ep, Cold War is defo my fave from the first lot we've seen
